Proposed Design for the ARIES-RS upgrade Based on Sn-Li and SiC
ARIES Electronic Project Meeting
March 16, 1999
Some Characteristics of the Sn-Li Blanket
- The basic configuration will be very similar to that of ARIES-RS
- The flow pass will be a once through, poloidal direction
- The gravitational head of the Sn-Li will be used to circulate the coolant in the blanket. That way, the coolant pressure in the blanket will be very low
- Sn-Li will transfer the thermal energy to a secondary He by the using of an IHX
- We will try to get the He temperature to ~ 1000°C, with a cycle efficiency of close to 60%
- With the use of a close cycle gas turbine, tritium permeation is not expected to be a major issue
