Proposed Design for the ARIES-RS upgrade Based on Sn-Li and SiC
ARIES Electronic Project Meeting
March 16, 1999
Some Recent Developments on Sn-Li
- ANL will start the following activities:
- Sn-Li preparation
- Screen test for material compatibilities
- UW proposed to do chemical reactivity tests
- TPE and PISCES proposed to do plasma/material interaction tests
- After heat and activation have been calculated by ANL and TSI, with forward to INEEL for safety assessment
- The effects of isotope enrichment to the tritium breeding and activation have been calculated by UCLA
- An abstract by Futterer has been submitted to the ICFRM to use Sn-Li to replace Pb-Li in the WCLL and TAURO designs
- Sn-Li has been proposed by Malang as a possible coolant/breeding material for the EC design study
- U-Tokyo is interested to do some experimental work on Sn-Li, such as tritium solubility measurement (from Tanaka)
