Summary and Recommendations

• Using RF techniques allows us to match the seed current profiles

quite well for the ARIES-AT target equilibria.

• A CD efficiency scaling with Te based on RFCD was calculated at

Zeff=1.69 for bN=5.38, and used in generating initial strawman.

• The impact of edge density on RFCD power can be quite severe.

e.g., nea/neo = 0.2 can reduce gB by a factor of 3 for bN =5.38.

( Having non-zero p’ at edge may help.)

• ECCD and NBCD have been investigated for edge CD:

- ECCD is attractive for least intrusion to power core;

- NBCD can generate toroidal rotation for kink stabilization.

• Propose to investigate these CD schemes further, including CHI,

and make decisions before next project meeting.

• Investigate the possibility of rotation drive using RF waves and

effect of energetic alphas on bootstrap current alignment.
