The Symposium will be held at the Bahia Resort Hotel, site of the 14th SOFE. San Diego international airport is just minutes away from the hotel - easily accessible by shuttle, taxi or rental car. Overflow from the 325-room Bahia will be at the Catamaran Hotel, approximately 1.5 miles away. Autumn in San Diego has pleasant temperatures ranging in the 60's and 70's. This Symposium - the 17th in a biennial series held since 1965 - explores the scientific, technological and engineering issues associated with fusion research. It is one of the premier international fusion engineering events, regularly drawing some 400 of the world's top fusion scientists.

The deadline for submission of abstracts has been extended to May 30, 1997. Instructions for preparation of abstracts are included here. We encourage participants to submit their abstracts electronically so that they can be posted on the SOFE97 Web site. In order to avoid parallel sessions, a majority of contributed presentations will be in poster sessions. The Technical Program Committee will choose a number of papers for oral presentation.
