Preparation of Abstracts

Submission Instructions

We encourage participants to submit their abstracts electronically. Electronic submissions will be posted on the SOFE97 Web site, and will be accepted in several forms: Templates for MS Word and LaTeX are available on demand.


Format Instructions (see sample)

  1. The abstract and all associated information absolutely must fit on a single page of standard 8.5" x 11" paper.

  2. Type single-spaced with Times Roman 12pt, Courier 10pt, or equivalent font and one-inch margins.

  3. The page includes three parts:
    a) title and authors, b) body, c) contact information and special requests.
    a) Use bold font and/or all caps for the title. Center the title and authors on the page. Include author affiliations.
    b) The body of the abstract must be 400 words or less.
    c) Below the body of the abstract, include contact information for the principal author:
    • name
    • mailing address
    • phone and fax
    • e-mail

    Following the contact information, indicate the category number(s) from the following list:

    1. Tokamak experiments
    2. Next-generation devices
    3. Advanced confinement concepts
    4. ITER
    5. NIF
    6. Magnet systems
    7. Heating, fueling and current drive
    8. Driver technology for IFE
    9. Plasma-material interactions
    10. IFE wall interactions
    11. Nuclear technologies (IFE and MFE)
    12. Materials behavior
    13. Tritium and vacuum systems
    14. Electrical power systems
    15. Instrumentation, diagnostics and data handling
    16. Remote handling
    17. Fusion power plant studies
    18. Safety and environmental studies
    19. Other (please specify)
    Note, these are not necessarily related to the sessions in the final technical program.

    Following the category number, add any special requests, such as preference of paper placement in relation to other papers.

    Note: All decisions related to the placement of presentations in oral and poster sessions will be made by the Standing Committee and Technical Program Committee.

  4. Within the space allotted, authors may use diagrams, equations, and other displayed material. Lettering for such material must be at least as large as the typed characters.

  5. All instructions regarding your abstract must appear at the bottom of the abstract page itself, not in a covering letter.
