Trump FY 2018 Budget Proposes Massive Fusion Cuts

President Trump's FY 2018 Budget Request to Congress proposes a massive cut to the US Department of Energy Office of Fusion Energy Sciences: from approximately $430 million (FY 2017) to $310 million (FY 2018).

The request for ITER is $63 million, compared to approximately $100 million (FY 2017).

The proposed cut in the domestic fusion budget is to $247 million compared to $330 million (FY 2017).

For inertial confinement fusion (within DOE Defense Programs) the request is for an increase to $533 million (FY 2018) from $516 million (FY 2017).
